7 Reasons I love Tim Ferris, and Why He’s Like Me!

September 2nd, 2007 · 6 Comments

The 4-Hour Work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New RichLittle did I know when I won the $30.00 Amazon Gift Certificate that I’d fall in love with Tim Ferris.

The 4 hour workweek has been all the buzz on the internet, so I won’t bother with a review. I’ll just explain why I’m in love.

He’s just like me. Except that he’s waaay richer than I am. And he’s younger.

Apart from that we have a lot in common.

He’s been to Switzerland. I’ve been to Switzerland.

He’s a Serial Entrepreneur. I’m a Serial Entrepreneur.

But that isn’t why I love him.

So who is Tim anyway? He’s the author of a the highly readable, ‘4 hour workweek’, The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich one of the books I bought with my win from the Shared Writing Project at Grow your Own Writing Business and Writing Thoughts.

Tim is a self proclaimed serial entrepreneur - and he didn’t feel the need to hang in there with the businesses. He seeks change and opportunity and isn’t in it for the long haul. He loves taking breaks from work, and used the time for travel, hobbies and new creative ventures.

I can relate. If you read any of my Life Journey posts on being a serial entrepreneur you’ll know I put the creative spirit high on my list of an entrepreneurial’s ‘must nurture’ list.

Here’s why I love Tim Ferris:

  1. He’s an inspirational human being.
  2. Tim is family oriented.
  3. He’ll try new things and honors his process for doing so.
  4. Tim is creative.
  5. His book is an easy and fast read.
  6. He doesn’t hold back in his writing.
  7. The book is full of tips you can implement today.

He’s got his own blog. One of his recent posts outlined his own writing process. His schedule of writing in the middle of the night isn’t for me, but the trick is to find your own way. The comments on his post outline many ways to write and be creative that work for people. Spend a bit of time to read them.

The blog is great Tim. I smell another book in the works.

I like to write early in the morning. Even though I’m not an early bird.

What about you?

When I was writing my latest book I scheduled time every Sunday morning for uninterrupted writing time. We attend church Saturday evenings most weeks (there are several services running on weekends) and on Sunday mornings my husband likes to get out on his mountain bike. The kids are grown and I’m left home alone to think, write, blog, do whatever I like because it’s not client time - it’s ‘me time’ which I love.

Of course, that’s not the only time I write - sometimes inspiration just has to take first place and I can knock the article/story/portion of book into shape the following Sunday morning or when time permits if sooner.

I, too, recently read Tim’s book. While I am not (yet) a serial entrepreneur, I now have an awesome toolkit for making some things happen. Thanks for the post!
